Bar Flores occupies a prominent spot on Lee-on-the-Solent High Street and offers a straightforward mix of drinks and sharing food shaped by the owners’ travels, especially in Spain.

Co-owner Rachael Wilkinson, a long-time Lee resident who also works in the NHS, chose the name from Miraflores, a place she and her business partner visited repeatedly. The Spanish phrase translates roughly as sea of flowers, a detail that sits comfortably with the floral touches and relaxed feel of the rooms.

The space is divided into three distinct zones: lower seating near the front for comfort, a central bar area with taller tables, and a quieter rear section better suited to dining.

The drinks list centres on international bottled beers, a range of wines available by the glass or as flights of three smaller pours, and a selection of spirits that includes several gins.

The food side begins with grazing boards rather than a full kitchen menu. A classic board leans on Spanish meats and cheeses. An at home option echoes a ploughman’s, while a vegetable version brings together falafel, halloumi, dates and similar items. The boards are designed for sharing and are regularly praised for variety and presentation.

Regulars and visitors often remark on the friendly service and unhurried atmosphere. The bar is dog-friendly and has drawn positive comments for looking after four-legged guests as carefully as their owners.

High chairs are available and outdoor seating appears when the weather allows. Food hygiene inspectors awarded a top rating of five, reflecting solid standards in the kitchen and storage areas.

The venture remains a part-time commitment for the owners, which keeps opening patterns focused on later in the week and weekends. That limited schedule has not prevented the bar from building a steady local following. Many who call in for a wine flight or a board stay longer than planned, citing the comfortable seating and easy conversation as reasons to linger.

Bar Flores fills a useful gap on the High Street. It is neither a traditional pub nor a formal restaurant, but a place where people can gather for a few carefully chosen drinks and something to share.

The Spanish influence remains light rather than themed, present mainly in the name, the charcuterie and the owners’ clear affection for the country that inspired them. For residents and visitors looking for a calm spot a short walk from the seafront, it has become a reliable option.
